Bruises

Tuesday 22nd November, 2011 - 7:24pm with 1 comment

I had a blood test today, as part of a depression study I’m taking part in. I think the crook of my elbow is bruised up. I don’t see anything, but it feels like a big bruise is building up there. Ouch.

When I learned about how a bruise was formed, in high school, I recall that all I’d ever known about bruises to that point was that they can be different colours and the darker, the more serious the injury. Generally.

I don’t know why it frightens me a little to know how exactly a bruise is formed:

A bruise, also called a contusion, is a type of relatively minor hematoma of tissue in which capillaries and sometimes venules are damaged by trauma, allowing blood to seep into the surrounding interstitial tissues

Why is that so freaky to me? Blood seeping. That does it.

I shudder thinking about it, though it’s normal and nothing to be paranoid about. Lucky I don’t have venephobia.

I remember learning about bruises in 8th grade. They always seemed pretty normal to me. :P I liked learning how when they turn green and then yellow, it means they’re healing. I used to have bruises all the time from skating, and I sometimes got sad when they started healing. :P I liked having battle wounds, I guess.
