Woodnotes.org: The Majestic Opus Organisation

So wittingly named, I’ve farewelled this domain but I have kept a copy of what I wrote as its history — the near-two years I owned it.

History ♪

Woodnotes.org was purchased on the 5th September 2009 at NameCheap.com ♫. The name came from a random search on “unusual words”. The words I came up with were not unique or interesting so I had to create my own combination.

At the time of registration, I had planned on using the domain with a reseller from the now defunct Ashpink.com. I was glad to have the domain as it had already been taken in the other two common extensions, .com and .net. I liked the rustic feeling of the domain name.

Woodnotes became my little place to “woodnote” things. It became a random blog of general posts related to technology, gaming, music, communication, social networking — in essence it became a blog where I posted things I learned. It was initially intended for university notes and opened on the 9th September 2009.

My host’s server was revoked, and I was able to obtain backups of the reseller. I was still keen on the domain and its purpose since I had it for over a month, and had been posting regularly.

It took the same amount of time to move the domain to my other hosted account at Bubble.nu ♫ and re-install WordPress ♫. After this time I started to realise I had too many domains, so went on a search for possible uses of domains.

I found myself posting less about university and more “rubbish”. I was posting a lot of to-do lists. However, I found that they were very helpful in making sure I got important tasks done.

The New Year ♪

I signed the website up for paid blogging. I started to receive opportunities and earn a bit of cash on the side. All this while, I seemed to be posting a to-do list in relation to my fanlistings ♫.

Looking closely at my other domains and new ones I had registered, I started to rethink the amount of domains I had. I gave some away, sold some, and registered new ones for more important and useful purposes. I was left to think over Woodnotes. I felt terrible that I was treating it like a thought dump, and after registering Glassfields.net ♫ for a similar, but more thoughtful blog, I knew it was time to give Woodnotes a makeover.

I find the name Woodnotes to be pretty versatile. Knowing that I had done a good job with Neverfly.org ♫ being a small fanlisting collective/hub, I decided to do the same thing with Woodnotes, and title it with “organisation”.

I knew that the versatile name would fit something related to music. I thought of ideas for fanlistings that would fit into this hub — albums, songs, bands, music miscellany — and came up with an idea after much thought. Knowing I had well over 100 fanlistings and many under music, it simply had to be related to music.

“Golden oldies” sums it up fairly well. For old, good songs. The Majestic Opus Organisation was not terribly hard to go figure. I simply needed two words to fit with “organisation” that would be a synonym for amazing song.

With the help of a thesaurus and my dear friend Sebby ♫, I came up with MOO — The Majestic Opus Organisation. A collective/hub for amazing classic songs.
